IDAHO, School & early career days

When I arrived on the University of Idaho campus in January of 1996, you might say there was an element of culture shock. I moved with my then-fiancé from sunny Southern California without much of a plan, not to mention a serious lack of cold weather attire. (Moscow, ID is basically Canada, by the way.) One day quite literally by accident, I found myself in the psychology building on campus, and thanks to a chance encounter with the department chair, shortly thereafter enrolled as psychology major.

After my fiancé became abusive and I ended our relationship, I learned a lot about myself, and became passionate about contributing to my community—and possibly helping other women in similar situations. I left Idaho and went on to earn my master's degree in counseling from California State University Northridge and work at the Valley Trauma Center, a rape crisis facility, as a counselor and advocate for survivors.

This intense and immersive work opened my eyes to the power that self care, style and beauty can have on a person's self-worth and the perception of who they are. It was the catalyst for everything that came next...

The hollywood / *NSYNC  years

Did you end up at bobbie.com because you found out I dated JC Chasez (from *NSYNC)? It's cool if you did, I swear! We dated for a few years, and I've included some amazing "vintage" photos from that time for you to enjoy.

During the late 1990s, my 20s were all about the "celebrity scene" in Los Angeles. When I started dating JC, I had the opportunity to join him at a photo shoot for J-14, a major teen magazine at the time. As one does, I wandered around and started poking through back issues; I found a photo of Britney Spears with the caption, "fake or real?" and it got me fired up. What a missed opportunity for this influential pub to send a positive message, instead of judgement, right? Since I've never really been one to hold back, I brought it up to one of the editors. This encounter eventually lead to my own advice column, and thus, Bobbie's Buzz (originally "Dear Bobbie's Buzz") was born. Suddenly my personal and professional lives were totally intertwined—I got to interview celebs like Brit, Jessica Simpson, Pink and of course, the boys of *NSYNC, about real issues and invited them to offer real, genuine advice to the teenage girls who adored them.

Now, having said all that, let me say this: I hope you'll stick around and explore more of what I've been doing since those early aughts...

PERSONAL LIFE: MARRIAGE, FERTILITY & MILES!

As you've probably figured out by now, I did not marry JC Chasez, and he is not the father of my beautiful boy, Miles. When I was TK TK TK, a mutual friend introduced me to Michael Marion and it seemed we were destined to live happily ever after.
